We exist to help people find and follow Jesus. Another way to say this is “we make disciples”. But what is a disciple? This “Pathway to Discipleship” serves as a “roadmap” or goals or steps that we want people to take.
Discipleship is learning to love and follow Jesus, becoming more like Him in our attitudes and actions.
What this means: Saying “Yes” to Jesus and giving him your allegiance.
You were created to know God in a personal - to have a relationship with Him, through His Son, Jesus Christ. In order to do that you must.
1. Realize you are a sinner.
2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
3. Repent of your sin.
4. Receive Jesus Christ into. your life.
Action Steps:
Have you prayed to receive Christ as Savior? If not, you can do that right now wherever you are. Just Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
If you are a Christian, you should practice sharing your testimony (your personal story of how God saved you). Try to keep it to 5 minutes. Make sure you include:
1. What was your life like before you met Jesus
2. How did you accept the Lord.
3. How is your life different because of Jesus?
Publicly declare your commitment to follow Jesus through water baptism.
Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”” (Acts 8:36–37, NKJV)
Water baptism is not a personal choice, but a command for believers. Jesus established water baptism as an ordinance when He gave the Great Commission (see Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16).
ACTION ITEM:
1. If you haven’t been baptized, sign up for our next baptism!
2. If you know someone who has surrendered to Jesus but hasn’t yet been baptized, encourage them to do so!
We are the body of Christ. If you have surrendered your life to Jesus, then you are a part of that body! In fact, the Bible says that you a vital part of the body and that we are incomplete without you!
That includes actively being a part of the church. What does that look like? In Acts 2:42 we see that They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Action Step:
Come to Church, Get Involved, Make Friends, Encourage Others to Attend
In John 15:4, Jesus says “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
One of the most crucial steps as you grow as a disciple of Jesus is to spend time with him each day. This includes reading your Bible and Praying. If you were trying to to know someone, you would spend time both talking and listening to them. Reading your Bible and Praying each day is how we do that as people trying to get to know God.
There are a lot of different reading plans you can follow, but the most important thing is to simply start spending time with god every day.
Action Step:
Get A Bible, start reading and praying daily.
Acts 2:42 is packed with wisdom in how we are to live as Christians. “They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
The early church lived out their faith with each other. More than just attending a weekly service we see in the Bible that they put a high value on living life together in community.
Action Step:
Sign up for a small group.
As Christians we are called to make disciples. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.
Action Step:
There are many ways to start disciplining others. From becoming a teacher in kids ministry or becoming a small group leader to simply reading the bible with your family, or seeking out a new believer to meet with to study the word together.
